Waterproof Thermometer

Waterproof Legionnaires' Thermometer Kit or Legionella thermometer kit with IP66/67 Therma Waterproof thermometer.

The Waterproof Legionella testing thermometer kit enables temperature monitoring of standing water, as well as surfaces of pipes and tanks within the water system. It includes a penetration probe specifically designed for testing tap water temperature as well.

How to Use

For accurate readings, ensure that the immersion probe is submerged in water to a minimum depth of 25mm. The ribbon surface probe is suitable for measuring temperatures on pipes and tanks, while the wire probe is designed to access difficult-to-reach areas or where other probes may not be suitable. Rest assured, this kit is accompanied by a traceable certificate of calibration to guarantee precise and reliable results.

Prevent Legionella Growth

Maintaining accurate water temperature is crucial in mitigating the risk of legionella growth. Legionella bacteria thrive in water temperatures ranging from 20 to 45°C, especially when accompanied by nutrients like scale, rust, sludge, or algae. To effectively control legionella, it is recommended to store cold water below 20°C. Hot water, on the other hand, should be stored above 60°C and distributed at temperatures exceeding 50°C. Adhering to these temperature guidelines is a typical method employed to minimize the risk of legionella proliferation.

Legionella Law

Under current legislation, it is mandatory for employers or individuals in charge of premises to conduct a risk assessment. The recently updated Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), issued by the government, expands its guidance on the management of legionella bacteria in water.

The revised code now encompasses all hot and cold water systems in workplaces, irrespective of their size. Previously, domestic systems were exempted if their capacity was below 300 liters, but this limit no longer applies. While domestic systems can pose a risk, the code solely pertains to risks arising from work-related activities.

Consequently, all employers responsible for premises with hot/cold water systems and/or wet cooling systems bear a legal obligation to identify potential contamination risks and implement preventive measures to manage and control them effectively.

Legal Obligations Regarding Legionella Testing

As an employer or person responsible for premises, it is imperative to arrange a risk assessment to address potential exposure to legionella bacteria. The revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) titled "Legionnaires' Disease: Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems" (L8), issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of the government significantly expands its guidance on the management of Legionella bacteria in water.

This code now applies to all hot and cold water systems in the workplace, regardless of their capacity. The previous lower limit of 300 litres, which excluded domestic systems, no longer holds true. While domestic systems may pose a risk, the code focuses solely on risks arising from work-related activities. However, it is important to note that domestic landlords also have a duty to ensure the safety of their tenants by addressing health hazards.

Consequently, all employers and landlords who oversee premises with hot/cold water systems and/or wet cooling systems carry a legal responsibility to identify any potential risk of contamination and implement measures to prevent or control it effectively.
