What is ATP Testing?
ATP testing, short for Adenosine Trisphosphate testing, involves the detection of ATP, an energy molecule present in all living organisms, including bacteria. It serves as a reliable indicator to assess the effectiveness of cleaning processes in eliminating bacteria.
The procedure of ATP hygiene testing involves combining ATP with a liquid-stable reagent. This combination triggers a chemical reaction that emits light. The amount of light emitted is directly proportional to the quantity of ATP present, measured as Relative Light Units (RLUs).
ATP testing is a simple and user-friendly process that provides a quick assessment of hygiene standards without the need for laboratory testing. To perform the test, you can swab the desired area, break the valve at the top of the swab, and squeeze the liquid down to the bottom to initiate the reaction. Then, place the swab in a luminometer and record the results.
